The goal of this class is to learn the fundamentals of how to compose music, and then to use these concepts and skills to create, mix and record your own songs. This includes learning music theory, piano skills, how to develop and use virtual instruments, audio recording, lyric writing, and other aspects of songwriting. You do not need any previous music experience to do well in this class. If you do have previous music experience, I will individualize the coursework to your needs and level. Although we will explore different kinds of music in this class, you will have many opportunities to compose the kind of music you are most interested in. You will also learn how to operate a midi controller piano (M-Audio Oxygen 49 Key Midi Keyboard) as a means of composing and playing virtual instruments. We will use FL Studio XXL as our software digital audio workstation.
